A 36-year-old man, owner of a mobile phone resale business, has been arrested during a police operation codenamed "Wiper" by the Cybercrime Investigation Sector. He is accused of illegally interfering with the iOS and Android operating systems of smartphones, appropriating data from these devices, and hacking the iCloud online system.
Cybersecurity specialists discovered the suspect's activity using advanced investigative methods. The operation was carried out following a decision by the Tirana Basic Court of General Jurisdiction and in cooperation with the Special Operations Force and the Eagle Special Forces Sector.
The arrest of citizen E. V. was made for several criminal offenses, including "Interference with computer data," "Interference with computer systems," "Misuse of devices," "Interference with semiconductor topography data," and "Unauthorized sale of SIM cards," according to articles 293/b, 293/c, 293/ç, 149/b, and 293/d of the Criminal Code.
"This citizen is suspected of using unlicensed devices and programs, which are traded on the online black market (Dark Web). He has managed to bypass the security elements of smartphones, appropriating the data of previous users and restoring the devices to their initial state to sell them," the police announcement states.
So far, 473 cases of appropriation of various passwords have been documented. Work to identify other individuals involved in this criminal activity continues, while the materials have been submitted to the Prosecution for further action.
