The Albanian defender sustained the injury during the Champions League match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Atalanta and was forced to leave the field in the first half. Gjimshiti also missed Atalanta's recent league match against Genoa.
After consulting with Atalanta's medical staff, it has been decided that Gjimshiti should not risk aggravating the injury and focus on full recovery. As a result, he will miss the two crucial matches for the Albanian national team.
Coach Silvinho and his technical staff have decided not to call up any additional players to replace Gjimshiti, preferring to continue with a squad of 23 players.
This is a significant loss for the Albanian national team, as Gjimshiti is one of the team's pillars and a natural leader. However, the team will have to show character and face this challenge without their captain.
