Eggs and Yogurt Thrown at MEP Fredi Beleri in Tirana: Opposition Accuses PM of Orchestration

After the conclusion of a meeting of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) at the Albanian Parliament's Presidency, an unusual incident shocked the political scene in the country. MEP Fredi Beleri was confronted by a physical attack when a citizen threw eggs and yogurt at him. The head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Gazmend Bardhi, reacted strongly to this event, calling it an act that "shames Albania" and a violation of the ethics of hospitality and inter-ethnic harmony.

The head of the Democratic Party's parliamentary group accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of orchestrating the incident.

In his response, Gazment Bardhi stated, “The physical attack orchestrated by Edi Rama, outside the Parliament building, against MEPs is an act that shames Albania. After blocking their entry at the front door, they then moved to physical assault on their way out, violating the sacred code of hospitality and inter-ethnic harmony. After suddenly canceling his meeting with the MEPs, like a coward, he ordered the attack on them, once again proving that he has no limits when it comes to anyone who doesn’t serve his personal interest. On behalf of the PD parliamentary group, I strongly condemn the physical attack on the MEPs and call on law enforcement agencies to take immediate action.”

This incident has stirred a wave of controversy, with opposition leaders condemning the actions as politically motivated and a sign of disregard for democratic norms and European values in Albania.
