At just 17 years old, Memeti has recently become a part of Melbourne City’s first team after a successful journey through their academy. Known for his exceptional attacking skills, a strong instinct for goals, and impressive speed on the field, Memeti is one of the most promising talents to emerge from the club.
In the 2024 season, Memeti kicked off his campaign with Melbourne City’s VPL1 squad at just 16 years old, where he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 9 goals in 15 appearances. His standout performances led to his dramatic debut with Melbourne City’s academy team, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
Memeti’s growth on the football field has been nothing short of impressive. He joined Melbourne City’s senior squad in 2023, adding depth and strength to the club’s attacking youth talent. His consistency and performance have earned him respect and recognition from both coaches and teammates.
Melbourne City’s Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, expressed his excitement about Memeti’s progress. “Medin is an extraordinary talent, and we’re thrilled he’s committed his long-term future to Melbourne City,” Petrillo said. “He’s in the right environment, with the necessary resources to fully realize his potential, and we look forward to seeing his development in the coming seasons.”
Academy Manager Simon Zappia also praised Memeti’s rapid rise from the academy to the A-League Men’s team. “Medin has a unique story. He was one of the first signings in our academy after we moved to Casey Fields from his previous club, Dandenong Thunder,” Zappia noted. “He’s shown remarkable resilience and has been consistently strong in VPL. I’m proud of his progress, and he fully deserves this opportunity.”
Memeti himself is overjoyed with his first professional signing with Melbourne City. “This is a proud moment for me and my family to sign my first professional contract with my local club, Melbourne City,” Memeti said. “I’ve worked hard for this moment, and I’m very happy, but I know this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to get back to work and learn from the players and coaches on the first team.”
As Medin Memeti continues to evolve and gain experience, there is no doubt that his future in Australian football looks bright, with many hopeful that he will eventually make an even greater impact on the international stage.
