On Saturday morning, Gazmend Muhaxheri, the Mayor of Peja, was physically assaulted while walking along Bill Clinton Street in Peja. The incident occurred around 8:50 AM, shortly after Muhaxheri had finished having coffee at a local establishment.

Muhaxheri, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), sustained injuries from the attack and was subsequently transported to Peja Hospital for medical treatment.

The police have confirmed that they are investigating the case but have not yet provided an official statement regarding the motives behind the assault. However, unconfirmed reports suggest that the attack may be linked to an ongoing infrastructure project in the municipality of Peja. Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.

In response to the attack, LDK President Lumir Abdixhiku has called on law enforcement agencies to promptly clarify the circumstances surrounding the assault. Abdixhiku emphasized the importance of ensuring safety and security for public officials and expressed solidarity with Muhaxheri during this troubling time.

This incident raises concerns about the safety of public figures in Kosovo and highlights the ongoing tensions related to local governance and infrastructure development. As the investigation unfolds, further details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the reasons behind this violent act.
