Rise in Road Accidents in Albania: August 2024 Sets New Record

 Road accidents in Albania continue to follow an alarming upward trajectory, with August 2024 breaking yet another record. According to the latest report from INSTAT, the number of road accidents reached 173 in August alone, a figure 48% higher than the same period in 2023.

The report also highlights a significant increase in the number of injuries and fatalities resulting from these accidents. In August 2024, a total of 252 individuals were affected, including both fatalities and injuries, marking a 40% rise compared to the same month last year.

Experts have revealed that over the first eight months of 2024, there have been 1,086 road accidents in total, representing a 41% year-on-year increase. Approximately 1,500 people have been injured in these accidents, 40% more than the previous year.

On a positive note, despite the rise in accidents, the fatality rate has decreased. The number of fatalities per 100 accidents dropped from 15.7 in 2023 to 9.2 in 2024.

Alarmingly, in 91.9% of the cases, road accidents were attributed to driver behavior. The age group of 25-34 years old continues to represent the majority of drivers involved in causing these accidents.
