Severe Weather in Albania Disrupts Traffic and Causes Flooding Across Several Cities

A wave of intense storms, marked by heavy rain and strong winds, has affected the entire country this Friday, leading to flooding in various cities and making it difficult for vehicles to circulate. Several urban areas, including key roads and intersections, have been heavily impacted by the downpour.

In the southern coastal city of Vlora, heavy rainfall caused significant disruptions to traffic, particularly along several main routes where water accumulated rapidly. Local authorities in Vlora have issued warnings to residents, advising caution in high-risk areas such as the Skela district, near the city’s library, and the Orthodox Church.

"Where I am standing, the water level has reached 20-30 cm. Fortunately, we haven’t received reports of homes being flooded yet. However, maritime transport remains suspended until later tonight, after which the weather conditions will be reassessed," noted a local correspondent.

Similarly, in the city of Fier, heavy rain flooded multiple streets, creating hazardous driving conditions. The storm caused notable traffic delays on the Fier-Patos road as well as on the city’s major ring road. Despite the challenging conditions, emergency response teams in both the municipal and regional offices have confirmed that there has been no significant damage beyond a few vehicles being stranded in flooded areas.

"The situation worsened due to the intensity of the rainfall, which was unusually heavy in a short amount of time. Several roads became impassable, but we have no reports yet on the state of agricultural lands or any road accidents. While two major routes remain temporarily blocked, overall, the situation seems to be under control for now," reported a local news correspondent.

Emergency services continue to monitor the evolving weather conditions, and further updates are expected as the situation develops. For now, residents in affected areas are urged to remain cautious, particularly when navigating flood-prone zones.
