A case of avian influenza has been identified in the village of Mezez, located in Tirana. The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the outbreak site has been quarantined to prevent the virus from spreading. This measure is part of a broader response aimed at containing the infection and ensuring public safety, local media say.
The Institute of Public Health is conducting necessary procedures to assess the risk to humans and implement control measures. Since October 30, farmers and poultry breeders have been informed of specific restrictions imposed to limit bird movement. These restrictions apply to farms within the municipalities of Tirana, Vora, and Kamza.
As part of these precautions, the sale and trade of live poultry are now prohibited in open markets and areas where live animals are sold. Additionally, the movement of live birds between farms and from farms to live animal markets has been banned. Transporting live poultry to slaughterhouses without prior authorization from an official veterinarian is also restricted. All birds must undergo a PCR test for avian influenza before they can be moved, and only those testing negative are permitted for slaughter.
