Ship "Moliva" near the port of Durrës ready to be unloaded |
Tomorrow, the unloading of chemical waste from the ship "Moliva" is scheduled to take place in the port of Durrës, after several days of waiting offshore following the Prosecution’s decision to seize it. This decision to unload was made after identifying a disposal site, which will be managed by law enforcement and the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets.
While the exact unloading location remains undisclosed, sources indicate it will be in a remote area, far from residential zones. The transport of the waste will be conducted under strict security measures.
To recall, two other ships with similar waste shipments were sent to Thailand and China in April and July, respectively, but were returned after international organizations raised alarms over the hazardous materials and potential illegal exports.
Once the waste is unloaded, all necessary checks and analyses will be conducted to assess the level of risk posed by the materials and carry out the necessary investigations related to this case.
