Tragedy at Worksite in Albania: Owner Arrested for Workplace Safety Violations

 A tragic incident occurred on Friday in the village of Skuraj, where a 61-year-old man, identified as Fatmir Haxhiu, lost his life while working near an inert materials processing site. The victim reportedly fell into the washing machine section of the processing facility, sustaining severe injuries that led to his death.

Police reported today that they have arrested 53-year-old Kastriot Lleshaj, who is suspected of violating workplace safety regulations, which allegedly caused the fatal accident. The processing facility is owned by Lleshaj and his brother. Authorities further suspect that Lleshaj removed the DVR device from the site's surveillance cameras to hinder the investigation. The police recovered the DVR device, which has been seized as material evidence. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the co-owner and the technical manager of the facility.


Following the information provided on November 23, 2024, regarding the incident in Skuraj, where F. H. fell from a height while working and later died in the hospital, the Kurbin Police Station arrested the wanted individual, K. Ll., aged 53, from Fushë Mamurras. Investigations suggest that F. H. fell due to violations of workplace safety regulations at a facility owned by K. Ll. and his brother. Furthermore, K. Ll. is suspected of removing the DVR device from the facility’s surveillance cameras to obstruct the investigation. The DVR has been recovered and seized as evidence. Efforts to locate the facility's co-owner and technical director are ongoing.
