Partnership with Turkish Company MKE
The Turkish company Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE) has been chosen to spearhead the project. The agreement between Kosovo and MKE is expected to be signed at the beginning of the week, with Prime Minister Albin Kurti representing the Kosovo government during the signing ceremony.
Key Features of the Project
The factory, to be built in phases, will initially focus on the production of two types of ammunition:
- 5.56 mm caliber ammunition
- 7.62 mm caliber ammunition
This initial phase is projected to be completed within two years. In addition to ammunition production, the agreement also includes the development of a laboratory for designing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Government’s Strategic Vision
Last month, the Government of Kosovo established an Inter-Ministerial Commission tasked with evaluating and initiating procedures for the factory’s construction. This commission has also been involved in negotiations regarding the development of the UAV design laboratory.
The partnership with MKE represents a significant step for Kosovo in enhancing its defense capabilities and developing its military-industrial infrastructure.
