“Even though Italy wanted me to play for them, I had no doubts. My entire family is from Albania, I feel Albanian, and I wanted to play for Albania,” Kumbulla stated with conviction. His choice reflects a deep sense of belonging and pride in his roots, an inspiration for Albanians worldwide.
The Roma Experience and Juric’s Influence
Kumbulla also shared insights into his professional growth, highlighting the significant role played by coach Ivan Jurić during his early years. “Of all the coaches I’ve worked with, Jurić had the biggest influence on me as a player. He gave me an opportunity when I was just 19 years old. I’ll always be grateful to him because he helped me change my life.”
His move to AS Roma for a staggering €30 million marked another milestone in his career. Despite the immense pressure of playing for one of Italy’s top clubs, Kumbulla approached the challenge with humility and determination. “I wasn’t thinking about the price tag at first; I just wanted to play football. There was a lot of pressure because Roma has a massive fanbase that expects a lot,” he explained.
