The Albanian government has announced two major initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and supporting the agricultural sector. During the most recent cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Edi Rama revealed plans for the creation of the Albanian Development Bank and the approval of a €250 million credit line focused on agriculture.

A New Engine for Development
The Albanian Development Bank will be established in collaboration with the renowned Italian financial institution Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. According to Prime Minister Rama, the bank will be managed by a joint Albanian-Italian team, ensuring professional and independent governance.
“This project is convincing and will soon be opened for public discussion. The creation of this bank represents a new engine for Albania's development at this stage,” said Rama.
The initiative is expected to facilitate access to financing for businesses and support long-term development projects across various sectors of the economy.
Focus on Agriculture
In addition to the new bank, the Bank of Albania has approved a €250 million credit line specifically targeting agriculture. This initiative is the largest financing package ever dedicated to supporting agricultural enterprises in the country.
The program will include:
- Soft loans for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in agriculture.
- Investments in agro-processing, greenhouses, and agritourism.
- Support for businesses aiming to modernize and expand their operations.
To bolster the credit line, the Albanian government has committed to backing it with a sovereign guarantee, ensuring greater financial security and encouraging participation from private enterprises.
