Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed that the project aims to connect Albania and Italy through an undersea power cable across the Adriatic Sea. This infrastructure will facilitate the transport of renewable energy from Albania to Italy, a move expected to bolster regional energy security and promote green energy solutions.

“We strongly believe in this project, which involves our three governments, private sectors, and electricity distributors,” Meloni stated during the summit, as reported by Reuters.

The agreement outlines Albania’s role as a producer of renewable energy, which will be exported to Italy via the undersea cable. Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania emphasized the collaboration’s importance, highlighting that it will involve electricity distributors from Italy, Albania, and the UAE.

“This infrastructure will connect the port of Vlora in Albania with the southern region of Puglia in Italy, the closest point between the two countries. The project is expected to be completed within three years,” Rama noted.

The initiative underscores the growing focus on sustainable energy projects and international cooperation. It also reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting innovative energy solutions worldwide, making this partnership a significant step toward reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

The €1 billion agreement aligns with global sustainability goals and has the potential to serve as a model for future trilateral collaborations in renewable energy development.
