Albania to Build Jewish Museum in Vlora: PM Rama Announces New Cultural Initiative

Albania's Prime Edi Rama welcomed Rabbi Yosiyahu Yosef Pinto in Vlora during the latter’s visit to Albania. The meeting underscored Albania's historical and cultural legacy as a haven of religious harmony and a protector of the Jewish community during World War II.

Albania: A Model of Religious Brotherhood

Prime Minister Rama highlighted Albania's unique role in safeguarding Jews during one of history's darkest chapters.

"With honor and humility, I had the privilege of welcoming Rabbi Yosiyahu Yosef Pinto to Albania for the second time—a country that stands as a model of religious brotherhood, where Jews were protected like nowhere else during World War II," Rama stated.

Tribute to Vlora's Jewish Heritage

During the visit, Rama and Rabbi Pinto explored the rich Jewish heritage of Vlora, a city where Jews settled centuries ago. The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Vlora’s historical role in fostering interfaith coexistence and shared exciting news about preserving this legacy.

"It was a privilege to visit Vlora with him, the city where Jews made their home centuries ago," Rama said.

A New Jewish Museum in Vlora

Rama announced that construction will soon begin on a beautiful Jewish Museum in the area that once served as Vlora's Jewish quarter. This initiative aims to honor the contributions of the Jewish community and reinforce Albania’s commitment to preserving its multicultural heritage.
