Albanian Police Oversight Agency Arrests Eight Following Violent Conflict in Gjashtë, Saranda

The Police Oversight Agency (AMP) has arrested four police officers and four civilians, while two individuals have been charged but remain at large, and two others are being prosecuted in freedom, following a violent incident in the early hours of this morning in the village of Gjashtë, near Saranda.

According to an official announcement, as Euronews Albania reports, investigative actions carried out by AMP—including scene examination, analysis of surveillance footage, and witness statements—led to the arrests for several criminal offenses. These include:
  • Attempted murder,
  • Destruction of property,
  • Intentional light bodily harm,
  • Threatening, and
  • Obstruction of a public order police officer.

Arrested Individuals

Among those taken into custody are police officers Alvaro Sulejmani, Inklid Sulejmani, Mihal Sulejmani, and Ergis Sulejmani, as well as civilians Kejvi Sulejmani, Shemsho Sulejmani, Delars Duka, and another Kejvi Sulejmani.

Others Charged

Two civilians, Enea Nexhipi and Albion Nexhipi, are being prosecuted while not detained, facing charges of destruction of property and intentional light bodily harm.

Fugitives Declared Wanted

Two individuals, Igli Duka and Beqir Çoçka, are currently wanted for charges including destruction of property, intentional light bodily harm, threatening, and obstructing a public order police officer.

Seized Evidence

As part of the investigation, authorities have seized:

  • Three firearms,
  • Four vehicles, and
  • Seven mobile phones.

Details of the Incident

The altercation occurred near a restaurant in the village of Gjashtë, where multiple individuals were involved in a physical confrontation using blunt objects. Among the victims identified are E.N. and A.N., who sustained injuries but are reported to be out of danger.

During the incident, police officer A.S. allegedly used and fired his service weapon, an act confirmed by AMP's statement.

This case underscores the gravity of holding law enforcement and civilians accountable for violent acts, with further developments expected as the investigation unfolds.
