Kristian Marku Killed in Armed Ambush on Vlorë-Fier Highway

 Kristian Marku, a 30-year-old from Rrësheni, was fatally shot in an ambush on Monday while traveling in his vehicle along the Vlorë-Fier highway. The attack occurred near a fuel station in the Novoselë area, where the victim’s car was fired upon with a barrage of automatic gunfire, resulting in his immediate death.

Authorities have confirmed that Marku had a criminal record, including charges for "Attempted Murder in Collaboration" and "Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition." He was also suspected to be the perpetrator of a shooting incident on March 26, 2023, in Rrëshen, Mirditë. In that incident, gunshots were fired at an individual identified by the initials S.R.

The brutal nature of the attack highlights concerns about organized crime and ongoing violence in the region. Police are conducting a full investigation to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motives behind the killing. Preliminary reports suggest the possibility of a targeted hit linked to Marku’s criminal background.

The incident has raised alarm among local residents, emphasizing the persistent challenges of addressing organized crime in Albania. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the case.
