A concerning trend has emerged: children under the age of five constitute the majority of those seeking medical care. This has led to overcrowded pediatric emergency rooms during the final days of the past year. Upper respiratory tract infections are the most prevalent type of illness affecting the population.

Although infections are widespread across the country, certain regions, including Gjirokastër, Durrës, Delvinë, and Vlorë, are experiencing higher rates of illness. Epidemiologists have categorized this as normal seasonal activity, but they warn that the number of infections is likely to rise in the coming weeks.

Currently, the number of flu and seasonal virus cases is considerably higher compared to the same period last year. Medical professionals emphasize that vaccination remains the best defense against severe cases and fatalities.

Over 205,000 individuals—primarily those aged 65 and older—have received the flu vaccine, which is being provided free of charge at healthcare centers across the country. This proactive approach aims to mitigate the impact of the seasonal surge and protect the most vulnerable members of the population.
