The Albanian Women’s Football Cup is set to return on January 28, featuring a new competition format. Unlike last year, this season will see nine teams competing, with the exception of Vllaznia, which has been excluded from the tournament following a decision by the Disciplinary Committee.
How Does the New Format Work?
The participating teams will be divided into three groups (A, B, and C), each consisting of three teams. The groupings are based on the standings from the first phase of the championship, with a home-and-away round-robin system applied.
Group A: Gramshi (1), Apolonia (2), Partizani (3)
Group B: Egnatia (4), Kinostudio (5), Laçi (6)
Group C: Tirana (7), Teuta (8), Lushnja (9)
The fixtures for each group are scheduled as follows:
Group A: 1-3, 2-1, 3-2
Group B: 5-4, 4-6, 6-5
Group C: 7-9, 8-7, 9-8
The opening matches will take place on January 28, with subsequent games in each group scheduled for February 2 and February 9, 2025.
Semi-Final Qualification
The top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals, alongside the best second-placed team across all groups. The four qualified teams will then be paired through an open draw to determine the semi-final matchups.
This revamped format aims to increase competitiveness and excitement, providing a fresh structure for women’s football in Albania.
The first matches on January 28 are highly anticipated, marking a promising start to the competition. Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament unfolds.
