In an ambitious move aimed at reducing air pollution, the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has proposed a plan to limit the use of private vehicles in Tirana on specific days of the week. This proposal, which has been opened for public consultation, could potentially come into effect as early as this year if approved.

This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to limiting car usage, the strategy outlines other measures, such as:
- Imposing new road circulation taxes.
- Promoting the use of public transportation.
- Enhancing road quality to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduced emissions.
The Ministry argues that these measures are essential for improving air quality and addressing the environmental challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increased vehicle dependency.
If the proposal gains approval and public support, it could mark a significant step toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Tirana. However, the effectiveness of such measures will depend on their implementation and the availability of alternative transportation options for residents.
The consultation period remains open, giving citizens a chance to voice their opinions and contribute to shaping this critical policy for Tirana’s future.
