Clashes During Opposition Protest in Tirana Leave Three Police Officers Injured

 During a protest organized by the Democratic Party of Albania on "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard, tensions escalated as fireworks and smoke bombs were thrown towards police officers stationed in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. The incident occurred while Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha was on the podium addressing the crowd.

As a result of the explosion of fireworks, three police officers sustained injuries. According to an official statement, one female officer suffered eye injuries, while two other officers sustained wounds to the face and hand. The injured officers were immediately transported to the hospital, where they are receiving specialized medical care.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, collecting evidence and reviewing video footage to identify those responsible for the attack. The State Police have pledged to hold accountable anyone involved in harming law enforcement personnel who were deployed as part of the security measures for the opposition’s demonstration.

The Director of the Tirana Police Department, Chief Elton Alushi, along with the Deputy Director of Public Order, visited the injured officers in the hospital, ensuring they receive all necessary medical assistance in coordination with healthcare professionals.

This protest, called by the opposition, is part of ongoing political tensions in the country. The incident underscores the fragile situation and the challenges authorities face in maintaining public order while allowing democratic expressions of dissent.
