Sali Berisha, the leader of the Democratic Party, has entrusted the political leadership of the campaign for the 2025 parliamentary elections to seasoned figures within the party, primarily from the older generation, or even some younger members who, in the majority, have suffered losses in their recent electoral runs.

Elezi criticized the internal dynamics of the party, stating that those who remain closest to the party leader and serve him the most have the greatest chances of securing a spot on the next electoral list.
“There’s no major novelty in one person going to one district and another to a different one. These will be distributed, but the first issue is that after December 11th, Sali Berisha didn’t fulfill the promise he made to the Democrats about restructuring the party. That would mean establishing a set of rules to rebuild a political force. Not only that, but Berisha ended up fragmenting the party worse than Basha did. In a party where votes are surplus, that system is not democratic. The political figures that are there are those who came from Lulzim Basha’s background. They are from the eight years when they were behind Basha, part of all the failures. When you label Basha's entire model as a failure, it’s clear that each of them carries their own burden. This means there is no rotation system in the Democratic Party. In a position where I no longer produce politics, I am obligated to give way to someone else. This is achieved through a career system, a set of rules that shows where you start and where you go.”
Elezi further explained that the current system within the party has produced a scenario where those who stay close to the leader and serve him most have the greatest chances of securing a safe position in future electoral lists, a system he believes has failed and does not produce any positive results.
“This system doesn’t produce anything,” Elezi concluded.
