Confirmed sources from VNA have reported that officers from the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), in cooperation with Swiss police officers, conducted a search at the residence of Arben Ahmetaj, the former Minister of Finance of Albania, who is currently accused and wanted by the Albanian justice system. Ahmetaj is reportedly awaiting asylum procedures in Switzerland, local media say.
Arben Ahmetaj was declared internationally wanted on July 24 of last year. After confirming that he was not found within Albania, the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) sent a request to Interpol Tirana for his international pursuit.
Along with Ahmetaj, international search warrants were also issued for the owners of the companies that won contracts for the incinerator projects—Stela Gugallja, Mirel Mertiri, and Klodian Zoto—whose whereabouts remain unknown.
During a televised interview, Ahmetaj admitted that he was awaiting asylum procedures in Switzerland. However, it remains unclear whether he was present at his residence at the time Swiss police and BKH officers conducted the search.
