Wilson’s stance has been harshly condemned by U.S. Congressman Ritchie Torres, who labeled the attempt to delegitimize Kosovo as shameful. He emphasized that the youngest state in the Balkans has been one of America’s strongest allies in the region.

"Kingsley Wilson, the Deputy Press Secretary for the Department of Defense, is attempting to delegitimize Kosovo, one of America’s greatest allies in the Western Balkans. No amount of historical revisionism can change the fact that Kosovo is and will remain an independent democracy," Torres declared.

Supporting his position, Austrian Member of the European Parliament Lukas Mandl reaffirmed Kosovo’s status as a peaceful and multi-ethnic state in Europe.

"A new state, founded on an ancient population and a modern constitution, will not disappear," Mandl stated.

Kingsley Wilson is among the officials from Donald Trump’s administration who have taken public stances on the Western Balkans. Another prominent figure who has frequently commented on Kosovo is former U.S. Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, who has maintained a strong focus on political developments in the region.

The controversy surrounding Wilson’s remarks underscores the sensitivity of the Kosovo issue and highlights the continued geopolitical tensions in the Balkans.
