"Albania, Free and Good": Former U.S. Soldier Explains Why He Chose Tirana to Live with His Family

Jeremy Pierce, a former U.S. soldier, has chosen Albania as the country to live in with his family, and this was no random decision. His choice is driven by a very special reason: the care of his son, who suffers from a serious illness called Huntington's Disease. Jeremy explains that he found Albania to be a more affordable place to live, with a welcoming community that has supported them during difficult times.

"Albania, Free and Good": Former U.S. Soldier Explains Why He Chose Tirana to Live with His Family

“What brought me to Albania is my son, who has a health condition called Huntington’s Disease. The medical expenses are very high, and I have to work all the time. I’m a retired military veteran with a pension, so living here helps us manage living costs and focus on my son’s medical care. I understand that Albania is not very well-known for its healthcare services, but it is affordable. Also, my son loves it here; he feels good,” says Jeremy to Vizion Plus.

A New Home and a Wonderful Experience for the Family

Despite the challenges they’ve faced, Jeremy and his family have quickly adapted to life in Albania. For Jeremy, this country has become a new home where his children are learning to love Albanian culture and traditions.

“My kids love Albania. The castles are their favorite part, and after that, the food. I’ve only been here for two months, but we’ve decided to stay. We have a home in Sauk. The people are fantastic. Before I came, I heard stories from other Americans, and they all said how hospitable Albanians are. I never imagined I’d feel so comfortable just because of the people here,” he shares.

A Passion for Documenting and Discovering Albania

Beyond adjusting to their new lifestyle, Jeremy has been inspired by the beauty of the country and his passion for documenting it. He has started filming drone videos to show his friends in the U.S. everything Albania has to offer, from breathtaking landscapes to castles and beaches.

“When I told people I was going to live in Albania, the first question was, ‘Where is that?’ Americans don’t know, but when I show them footage of Tirana, the beaches, the castles, they are amazed and say they want to come see it… And most importantly, I can take care of my son. In short, we’ve fallen in love with Tirana,” says Jeremy.

A Country That Surprised Him in a Positive Way

Looking at Albania from a new perspective, Jeremy admits that it wasn’t initially on his list of places to live, but over time, his desire to stay here has grown. He has been surprised by the hospitality of the Albanian people and the support they’ve received during their adaptation period. Now, Albania holds a special place in his heart.

For Jeremy and his family, Albania has become not just a place to live more easily, but also a place where they feel welcomed and supported while helping his son battle his illness, all while enjoying a new life in a country rich in culture and warmth.

Albania, with its stunning nature and hospitable culture, is increasingly becoming a destination for those looking for new living opportunities. Jeremy's story is a testament to this.
