Renowned Albanian actor in Greece, Nikos Gelias, recently spoke to “Mega” about his latest role in the new series “Mavo Rodo” and opened up about his personal life and past experiences with racism.

Gelias, who is now a prominent figure in Greek television, shared his journey, starting from his early years as an immigrant. He revealed that he moved to Greece with his family at the age of five, fleeing economic hardships in Albania. His family faced frequent relocations, often forced to move from one neighborhood to another due to discrimination against Albanians.
The actor candidly discussed the racism he endured during his childhood. He recalled how teachers refused to give him the chance to speak in class solely because of his Albanian origins. “My origins are from Albania. I came to Greece at the age of five as an economic immigrant. We moved frequently because, as Albanians, we were often evicted from our homes,” Gelias explained.
He continued, “There was racism — from the simplest forms, like children refusing to play with us because we were Albanian, to teachers ignoring us and not letting us speak in class.”
