An unsettling incident has taken place in the city of Prizren, where a citizen was caught on security cameras tearing apart the holy book, the Quran.
The suspect behind this grave act has yet to be located. Meanwhile, the Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren has authorized the police to initiate investigative measures, local media say.
The prosecution stated that they have instructed the police to work on identifying the perpetrator and gathering the necessary evidence.
"The prosecution has determined that this incident falls under the criminal offense of 'Inciting Division and Intolerance' according to Article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (KPRK). This criminal offense, under the new Law on the Special Prosecution Office, now falls under the jurisdiction of the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK), which has been informed of the case and is now handling further investigative actions," the statement reads.
Reports indicate that the man’s act of tearing the Quran took place during the holy month of Ramadan, adding further gravity to the situation.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect, urging the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in resolving this disturbing case.
