The investigation led to the identification of the ruins of a fortification at the peak of a hill. The site consists of small plateaus surrounded by steep slopes on the east, south, and north, while the western side features a gentler terrain.
The discovery site, known as Kodra e Qytezës, is located 10 km from Rubik at an altitude of 475 meters above sea level. In the northwest section of the fortification, the remains of a circular tower were observed, whereas a collapsed wall line was identified to the southwest.
Experts believe the fortification served a defensive function or was used as an observation post to monitor the surrounding territory.
IKTK will continue the documentation, study, and conservation processes of this fortification in the coming phases. Additionally, a surface archaeological survey will be conducted to understand the fortification’s connections with the surrounding landscape.
