French police have arrested seven individuals suspected of being behind a series of burglaries targeting high-profile figures in France and Belgium.

The criminal gang, composed of Albanian nationals, specifically targeted celebrities, including football players, Formula 1 drivers, and famous singers.

Two of the suspects were apprehended on January 20 in Luxembourg, while the remaining five were arrested on March 4 near Reims. Six of them have already been formally charged, including the suspected leader of the group, Edison Pula, an Albanian in his thirties.

The French police had codenamed the group “Nikla.” According to authorities, the gang stole luxury jewelry and accessories worth approximately 1 million euros, which were later sold in Albania.

Edison Pula was wanted by Interpol and is notorious for multiple escapes, including a breakout from an Italian prison in June 2022.
