During an inspection in Ticino, officials from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) stopped a delivery truck carrying 19 mopeds. These vehicles had not been properly declared, as reported by albinfo.ch.
The BAZG announced on Friday that the license plates had been removed, and after restoration, the mopeds were intended for resale within Swiss territory, according to sda.ch.
The seizure took place last week on the highway in Ticino while the truck was heading north. It was intercepted at a rest area between Riva San Vitale and Capolago, the official statement continued.
The mopeds had already been refused entry at the Pizzamiglio border checkpoint on the same day, as they were considered commercial goods.
However, the driver, a 43-year-old Kosovar national, did not comply with the officials’ instructions and re-entered Switzerland, reports albinfo.ch. As a result, he was required to pay a fine of several thousand Swiss francs and to declare the goods in accordance with regulations.
