The Celebration of Sultan Novruz in Albania: Baba Mondi’s Call for Peace and Unity

This Saturday, Bektashi believers gathered to celebrate "Sultan Novruz," one of the most significant holidays in their faith, marking the birth of the great Imam Ali. The festivities took place at the World Headquarters of the Bektashi community in Tirana, where the World Leader of the Bektashi, Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, known as Baba Mondi, delivered a heartfelt message of love, unity, and compassion.

“The message I share with you today is to love one another and love God, for only good comes from Him,” Baba Mondi expressed. “Let us walk the righteous path of truth and be grateful for God's blessings. These religious ceremonies are a sacred bond that unite us, helping us feel closer to one another — in pain, sickness, sorrow, and joy. God wants us to be united, not only today but forever. The wisest person is the one who forgives, even when they have the power to seek revenge,” he emphasized.

Given the recent events in Albania, the region, and around the world, Baba Mondi extended his prayers for global peace and security.

“We must care for our children and for all of humanity, so that peace, love, and kindness prevail — not wars, vengeance, or blood feuds. On this holy day, I wish for peace and safety to reign across the world. I pray to God to save every life and grant peace to every soul unjustly lost in war. May God bless us all, amen,” he concluded.

Nevruz, meaning "new day" in Persian, represents more than the start of a new year — it is an ancient celebration of life, rebirth, and the triumph of light over darkness. In Albania, the celebration of Sultan Novruz began with the spread of Bektashism during the 14th century. Alongside religious rituals, Bektashi believers use this day to exchange visits and gifts, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness and generosity.

Sultan Novruz stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of forgiveness, unity, and hope — values that resonate deeply in today’s turbulent world.
