Following strong reactions and public protests, the residents of Ulcinj will regain the beaches they had previously rented on the Great Beach. These beaches had been allocated to an Arab company through a law passed by the Government of Montenegro, a decision that sparked significant local opposition.
The leadership of the Municipality of Ulcinj and local citizens strongly opposed this decision, organizing protests to voice their discontent. They had previously warned that they would not accept this injustice and vowed to continue their demonstrations in defense of the rights of the community.
The withdrawal of the Arab investor was officially announced today during a meeting between Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, and the Mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, held in Ulcinj.
Following the announcement, Mayor Nimanbegu emphasized that while investors are welcome in Ulcinj, they must operate in the best interests of the local community. His statement reassured residents that future developments will prioritize the well-being and economic stability of Ulcinj’s people.
The return of the beaches to their rightful users marks a victory for local activism and demonstrates the power of collective action in safeguarding community interests.
