Official Statement from Vlora Port Authority
In an official notice regarding the deteriorating hydro-meteorological conditions from March 23rd to 25th, 2025, the Vlora Port Authority outlined the expected weather patterns and necessary safety measures.
According to forecasts, from 8:00 AM on March 23rd, winds from the south-southeast direction are expected to reach speeds of 25-40 m/s (force 8-9 on the Beaufort scale), accompanied by waves rising between 2.5 to 4.5 meters both inside and outside the Bay of Vlora.
In light of these hazardous conditions, the Port Authority calls for full cooperation from all maritime operators to ensure vessel safety in the port and heightened readiness from onboard crews.
Key directives include:
-
Suspension of small and fishing vessel departures: Starting from 6:00 AM on March 23rd, 2025, no small boats or fishing vessels operating in open waters will be granted departure permits.
-
Safety precautions for active vessels: All operators of small boats and fishing vessels, whether within or outside the Bay of Vlora, are urged to take the necessary precautions to secure their vessels against adverse weather conditions.
-
Cancellation of international maritime transport: Passenger and vehicle ferries on the Vlora – Brindisi – Vlora route will remain suspended until maritime conditions improve, which is anticipated after 10:00 PM on March 24th, 2025.
-
Resumption of operations: Small and fishing vessels are expected to resume normal operations after 8:00 AM on March 25th, 2025, provided weather conditions stabilize.
The Vlora Port Authority remains committed to ensuring safety and minimizing risks during this period of severe weather. All maritime businesses and operators are strongly advised to comply with the directives to avoid unexpected incidents at sea.
