According to the police statement, preliminary investigations carried out in coordination with the Fier Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the suspect not only promised the bribe but also took possession of the citizen’s identification card. The ID card has been seized as material evidence.

“The Crime Investigation Specialists of the Lushnjë Police Station arrested in the act the citizen M. L., 38 years old, resident of Lushnjë, for the criminal offenses of 'Active corruption in elections' and 'Illegal possession and use of identification documents,’” the police statement reads.

Authorities suspect that the individual attempted to buy the citizen’s vote by offering cash and unlawfully retaining their identification document, actions that constitute serious electoral violations under Albanian law.

The case has now been forwarded to the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) for further legal action.

This incident highlights growing concerns over electoral integrity ahead of Albania’s parliamentary elections, with law enforcement agencies vowing to take firm action against any attempts to manipulate the democratic process.
