The “UEFA Development” U-16 girls’ tournament kicked off today with the first two matches hosted at the “House of Football” in Albania.
The Albanian U-16 girls’ national team started their campaign on a high note, securing a win against Georgia in a dramatic penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regular time, but the red and black girls held their nerve from the spot to win 5-4 on penalties.
Coach Cyme Lulaj lined up her squad with the following starting eleven:
Ambra Reshiti (GK), Anita Boqaj, Reiana Jahelezi, Marina Rushaj, Besiana Gola, Aldisa Kronaj, Agnesa Mehmeti, Albana Malaj, Amalie Abazi, Kalomira Ndreu, and Kejsi Demiraj.
Albania took the lead in the 26th minute through a well-taken goal by Kejsi Demiraj, maintaining the advantage until halftime. Georgia responded in the second half, equalizing in the 48th minute with a goal from Nato Gutikashvili.
With the game tied 1-1 at the final whistle, the match went to penalties. Goalkeeper Ambra Reshiti emerged as the hero for Albania, saving the final Georgian penalty and securing a 5-4 shootout victory for her team.
In the other match of the day, North Macedonia and Bulgaria also played to a 1-1 draw in regulation time. North Macedonia proved more clinical in the penalty shootout, claiming a 4-2 win.
