The operation was launched following intelligence reports about a suspicious vessel possibly engaging in illegal activities. According to preliminary information, the vessel was suspected of traveling from Italy to Albania before making a return journey to the neighboring country. This prompted authorities to conduct extensive searches across the area.

During their inspection, Border Police officers located the fuel but did not find any additional evidence or suspects at the scene. Investigators suspect that the fuel was strategically placed to supply a watercraft involved in the illicit transportation of narcotics.

Following the discovery, authorities have urged all operators of watercraft in the area to report the whereabouts of their vessels. In response to the situation, a new registry has been established to monitor maritime traffic more effectively, addressing a long-standing gap in oversight.

Although no vessel has been intercepted, an official investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for delivering the fuel to Sazan Island and to determine the purpose of its transport to this specific location.

According to police sources, the incident occurred four days ago. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to uncover the individuals behind this suspected smuggling operation.
