British Ambassador Fergus Eckersley emphasized the UK’s long-standing friendship and support for Kosovo, reiterating the commitment to assist the country on its Euro-Atlantic path. He highlighted that this stance was also made clear during the recent visit of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Pristina.

“The United Kingdom has been a long-term supporter and friend of Kosovo. We remain committed to backing Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic journey and the development of a democratic, multiethnic society. We welcome the recent peaceful and competitive elections, as described by international observers, and look forward to cooperating with the new government,” said Eckersley.

He also praised Kenya’s recent decision to recognize Kosovo’s independence and encouraged others to follow suit:

“As a supporter of Kosovo’s statehood, we welcome Kenya’s recent recognition, which adds to the growing list of recognizing states. We urge all those who haven’t recognized Kosovo to do so without delay.”

Furthermore, the UK representative called on Serbia to bring to justice those responsible for past violent incidents — including attacks on KFOR troops and the Banjska armed assault — and to cooperate with Kosovo in identifying the perpetrators of the recent attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal.

Also speaking at the session, U.S. representative John Kelley emphasized the need for Kosovo and Serbia to reduce tensions and refrain from inflammatory rhetoric. He reiterated that the ultimate goal must be mutual recognition between the two states.

These strong messages from Western powers underline increasing international pressure for normalization and full recognition of Kosovo’s sovereignty amid ongoing tensions with Serbia.
