The Court of Appeal in Catania has sentenced Moisi Habilaj to 15 years in prison, upholding the decision of the first instance. As of late May, he was under house arrest after spending nearly two years in prison.

Moisi Habilaj was convicted last June on drug trafficking charges from Albania to Italy. In this Thursday session, the Italian judges of the Appeal, have decided not to make any reduction of the sentence for the Albanian trafficker.

Meridian Sula and Nezar Seiti were also convicted along with Habilaj. The first was sentenced to 8 years in prison, while the second, also described as the financier of the Habilaj group, was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

According to local media, in the first instance trial Habilaj had decided to speak before the court admitting some accusations, but denying any possible involvement in drug trafficking of his cousin, former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.
